Change Is Good

Why I’m Closing Jillian Wright Skincare

For the last 3 years, I have enjoyed offering you an amazing skincare collection as an extension of my spa and facial services. I was full of pride every single time you purchased a Premium Reserve, Double Surface Exfoliator, Balance Moisturizer—and everything in between.  Can I say that I take great pride in the fact that I only had one return in 3 years? Sadly, the growth of my other business has forced me to make the difficult choice to no longer offer my branded skincare after December 25, 2017. I put the site on hiatus as of December 26, 2017.

It turns out that the journey I started with the creation of my skincare line led me to start the Indie Beauty Expo with a former facial client of mine, Nader Naeymi-Rad. In the two years since we began, Nader and I have built an incredible platform for emerging and established indie beauty brands. We never could have predicted the success and growth of IBE in such a short amount of time.  Just as I had to give up my spa and my love of performing facials, good things have to come to an end in order for other things to thrive and prosper.  It is time for me to retire my brand for the betterment of a community.

Since our inception back in 2015, IBE has grown from a one day show in Manhattan, to a 4 day, 4 city show which includes a brand new platform for  thought leadership and education called (BeautyX Summit), a digital magazine Beauty Independent and our newest Indie Beauty Expo in London 2018. We also had the pleasure of launching indie beauty at Neiman Marcus. We have spent the last three years building a community of entrepreneurs and it’s only the beginning. The irony in all this—that I began IBE so I, as an independent producer in the beauty community, could band together with others like me to establish a presence in the online and retail universe—is not lost on me. I cannot use IBE to promote my own brand, possibly to the detriment of others. It’s a conflict of interest, and I’ve turned away many inquiries that came to me through IBE so the company can truly accomplish what’s it’s designed to do. Also, practically speaking, it’s kind of impossible to grow both businesses at the same time, particularly when it comes to investments of time and money.

What I have learned from IBE, is that my talent and expertise can be fully realized in my role as co-founder of that particular company.  Having the spa, tending to my clientele and formulating a skincare line was a catalyst for what I am truly meant to do.  When I was a kid, I knew I wanted to make a difference.  I had no idea what that was at the time.  For 18 years, it was in the treatment room.  But now, the possibilities seem limitless.  Nader and I have a growing team of over 15 and this month, I’m traveling to LA, Stockholm, Sweden, Germany and Zurich, Switzerland all for IBE this month. I simply do not have time to nurture Jillian Wright Skincare.

The good news is I started my own IG called @greenapplebeauty.  I did this so I could celebrate the brands that I really love. I’m in a unique position where I receive a lot of products to test and then talk about.  Please follow me to be inspired and learn about the brands that have impressed me.  I do not get paid for these endorsements—I simply love talking “skincare” and believe me, there is a lot to talk about!  Please also, sign up for IBE and Beauty Independent.  Links are above and follow us on Instagram.  @indiebeautyexpo @beautyindependent @beautyxsummit

Please think of this as an evolution of sorts, not a good-bye.  I’m still here, but in a broader sense than before.  My love is to see others succeed.  Now I actually have a hand in doing so.

With love,

Jillian
